Remediation & Research Services Metal Stamping Operation Wrightstown, PA
The consultant has completed assessment services related to a multitude of Areas of Concern involving chlorinated solvent discharges in sediment, soil, surface water and groundwater at this former metal stamping facility. The onsite discharge, chiefly through the septic system, threatens surrounding drinking water supply wells, and the responsible party has maintained hydraulic control through a pump-and-treat system installed in the 1980s. The existing pump-and-treatment system was no longer functional and required a complete overhaul. Brown Environmental redesigned the system utilizing some of the existing infrastructure while adding automated controls, backup treatment systems, remote monitoring, and alarm devices thereby reducing operation and maintenance costs. Brown Environmental investigated aerobic bioremediation, anaerobic bioremediation, and chemical oxidation through the completion of seven treatability studies to evaluate remedial alternatives. A form of chemical oxidation coupled with a recirculation system was selected, designed and implemented. The system has been producing a very low cost to mass destroyed ratio indicating an effective remedial design.
