Remediation Services Johns Hopkins University Baltimore, MD
Brown Environmental was retained to provide environmental contracting services on a former heating oil storage and dispensing depot situated on the Cheasapeake Bay. Heating oil was offloaded from a barge to a 1,000,000 gallon aboveground storage tank. An onsite overhead rack system was used to fill 2,000 gallon tankers for home deliveries. Brown Environmental secured nine remedial permits from the appropriate regulatory authorities, installed soil erosion and sediment controls, excavated 53,000 tons of soil (to a depth 2 feet below the water table) from a 2 acre area, transported the soil to a Bioremedial Treatment Area (BTA) encompassing 7.5 acres, applied bioremedial amendments while aerating the soil, collected remedial progress soil and groundwater samples, biologically treated over 35,000 tons of impacted soil in the BTA and 2,000,000 gallons of impacted groundwater within the excavation, dewatered the excavation, and completed the backfill operation using both clean and remediated soil. Site closure was secured from the Maryland Department of Environment and the site was approved for residential development.
